The Dawber Choral Society was formed in 1963 and specialised in classical music, rehearsing each week at the Baptist Chapel on Greek Street, Stockport. Still performing into the 90s, the Charity Commission for England and Wales states that the Choral Society ceased to exist from 1994. Named after Dr Harold Dawber, a former professor at the Royal Manchester College of Music, the society were incredibly well known, which was expected from the transformation Dr Dawber gave to the Maia Choirs from 1929 onwards. The Wigan-born organist had also performed for The Hallé in the 20s and 30s.
