Frank Milner was the founder (1943) and conductor of the Bolton Youth Orchestra. He was also the headmaster of Castle Hill Secondary Boys' School for 26 years. Frank's son, Martin, went on to lead the Bolton School and Youth Orchestras, eventually becoming leader of the Hallé for 29 years, which is a record. Frank would have been proud, with Martin also becoming an honorary fellow of Bolton Institute in 1991.
