Located on the corner of Portland Street and Piccadilly, Manchester, the Queen's Hotel was built in 1845 as the home of William Houldsworth, the politician, textile merchant, and owner of Houldsworth Mill, Reddish. William gave the house to his nephew, Thomas Houldsworth, the owner of Houldsworth's Factory on Little Lever Street, Manchester. Thomas soon transformed the building into the Queen's Hotel, with plans for extending the hotel being found from 1851. The hotel was demolished in 1973 after over one hundred years as a business. In its place, One Portland Street was built, a mixed-use building, designed by Gordon White & Hood Ltd.
