Located in the village of Bowdon, the Church of St Mary the Virgin, or St Mary's, is one of three sites under Bowdon Parish, the others including St Luke's and the local Parish Centre. On the site of St Mary's, there has been a church dating back to the 1086 Doomsday Book, where this was noted. Since then, it's believed that a new church was built in the 14th century, with it being remodelled in the 16th. From this point, St Mary's was completely rebuilt in 1860, designed in the Gothic Revival style by W. H. Brakspear, incorporating 16th century features of the roofing. The church also features a ring of eight bells, which were cast by John Taylor & Co. in 1964. Designated as a Grade II* listed building in 1985, the church remains an active Anglican parish church in the diocese of Chester and archdeaconry of Macclesfield. The current Reverend of the Church is Ian Rumsey.
