Roy Heaton Smith

Roy Heaton Smith was born in Middleton in 1928. He studied composition with Richard Hall privately before winning a scholarship to study with him at the Royal Manchester College of Music in 1950. 

Along with composing, he became Head of Music at Queen Elizabeth High School in Middleton in 1960.

He died in 2014.
