Black Stan’s Blues Band
Sent in by Mike Dalton:
I was some time drummer in this band, mainly during its residency at the Gardners Arms in Rusholme, and various away days at uni venues, '86-'90 time.
The line-up was Stan Ellison - 'Black Stan' - lead guitar and vocals; John Waldron - guitar; and Neil Pinkerton on bass, later boosted by the not inconsiderable talents of CP Lee - vocals and John Scott - guitar, both previously of the 'Albertos'.
On occasion, Pete Farrow would join for a few 'solo' numbers and later with the band around him. An excellent band of which I was very fortunate to have been a part.

I remember the Gardners Arms nights very well and used to get up and play bass now and again. I'm sure Mike Dalton will remember the highlight of the night when local celebrity Igor got up to do a turn. The whole place would erupt 'igor! igor! igor! - igor got bone in neck!'

I saw the band a couple of times at the Gardener's Arms in Rusholme, supported by The Man From Delmonte (or maybe it was the other way round). Great nights.
Rather brilliantly, CP Lee introduced a storming cover of Bo Diddley's 'Who Do You Love' by declaiming "47 miles of barbed wire and a cobra snake neck tie" in a John Cooper Clarke voice.
