The Relatives
The Relatives were a new-wave four-piece band form the Saddleworth / Oldham area, playing pop, rock and reggae originals.
Formed in the early ‘80s from the ashes of SWF and SIC, the band consisted of Shaun Carter (Guitar/Vocals) Raymond Lyness [Raz] (Bass/Vocals), Ian Cameron [Cammy] (Lead Guitar) and Dave Brown (Drums).
The band had a dedicated following, playing in venues from Manchester to Sheffield. A review in the Melody Maker nicknamed them ‘The Funky Buzzcocks’.
Their only official release was the single: “As A Child / Say Goodbye To our Body” [BadArse Records], which was played on John Peel’s Radio One show.
Other recordings include:
The Decibel Sessions [1982]
- Transmission Understood
- Friendzy
- Coughin’ Dub
The Reeltime Sessions [1983]
- Insomnia
In their most recent incarnation, Shaun and Raz continue to play locally as the Motown Vampires.
