End Result
This was a band formed in 1979 in a bedroom (like many bands) friends and pupils of North Chadderton comprehensive school.
The band was formed by close friends Paul White, (vocals) and David Waterhouse ( guitar) they were later joined by school friend and fellow 'punk' and gig goer Andrew Gorrie on ( Bass).
They rehearsed throughout 1979 and into 1980 in rehearsal rooms at Beech Mount in Royton in Oldham, this building (now demolished but replaced by another building of the same name) was owned by the builder father of another school acquaintance John Ryan, who was also rehearsing his band (loosely called The Third Angle) this band featured another school friend Duncan Jessop on Bass.
End Result had some potential,White and Waterhouse composed a handful of songs, and there is a recording somewhere in Andy Gorrie's vaults.
Unfortunately the lads were not experienced players, and lacked a drummer to drive things along, all members remained friends and still attended gigs together but the band began to fade as the members started studying for exams and contemplating getting 'proper jobs'.
Paul White had potential to be something of an academic, he studied and later travelled, but sadly passed away prematurely from a heart attack in Rome in 1992.
Andrew Gorrie (Min) progressed as a musician and switched to guitar playing in several great local bands including ;
'Dead Heroes', he has most recently been playing as a founder member of local Punk/Ska covers band Ten Foot Fez.
David Waterhouse became dj Tank The Manc and played most types of tunes to suit most tastes, on the local pub/club scene as well as operating as a private dj for functions.
As of 2012 his dj career is on hold due to career comittments, and Andrew Gorrie ( Min) has left Ten Foot Fez.
The two friends are 'jamming' together occasionally see if there is any magic?
Watch this space!
Yet another school friend was Stephen Holt, he asked David Waterhouse how the band was going and sensing an opportunity was available, along with another unknown Oldham lad took over End Results' rehearsal slot when they faded away in 1980.
These two lads were the earliest incarnation of Inspiral Carpets, who went onto become one of the biggest bands of The Madchester scene, Stephen Holt had left them by the time they hit the big time, to be replaced by Tom Hingley.
As everyone knows Noel Gallagher auditioned to become new lead singer of Inspiral Carpets, he didnt get the job but ended up as their roadie, left to join his brother ; Liam's band 'The Rain', who later became Oasis
As of 2012 Stephen Holt has rejoined Inspiral Carpets, as lead singer and the band are completing sell out tours and festivals, David Waterhouse recently bumped into Stephen Holt, and congratulated him on his return to a great Oldham band.
Hows that for a slot on 'Rock Family Trees' ?
