Brainchild

Great, loud band, played all over UK but had several residencies at clubs, pubs etc. Appeared on 'New Faces' singing a self penned song, received rave comments from Jack Parnell. Played support to bands such as Sweet, Mud, Showaddywaddy, PJ Proby plus many others. Represented Manchester in the finals of the Daily Mail's battle of the bands and then went on to appear on Radio Manchester's 'Live Night Out' show. 'Brainchild' were originally formed when the landlord (Charlie Petrie) of 'The Waggon & Horses' on Ripponden Road in Oldham placed an advertisement in the Oldham Evening Chronicle looking for musicians to form a band, this was in 1969. He wanted to manage the band and call it 'The Golden Mile', however the band that was formed did not like the name at all. Soon after the formation, the 'Oldham Evening Chronicle' ran a story about the band, under the title of "Charlie's Brainchild", to tell of his idea. The name was immediately seized on by the band but shortened to 'Brainchild'. As with all bands there are some really funny stories but also some not so humourous! Eventually in 1975 the band went their seperate ways due to financial difficulties, this was just weeks following an appearance on ATV's 'New Faces', where they were offered a lot of work but unfortunately this was on the cabaret circuit.
