The Radioactive Shoulderblades

Paul Rosenfeld writes: The Radioactive Shoulderblades were initially a piss-take band based in Wythenshawe and wrote ridiculous versions of songs by local heavy metal bands like “I sometimes feel like cheese and pickle” , which was a version of “I sometimes feel like a promise you couldn’t keep” by Straw Dogs. Anything to rile and take the piss out of local bands was the modus operandi. Based around a home-made recording studio in Cornishway, The Radioactives were: Martin McBride Vocals, Anne McBride, Caroline Kelly and Mike Carr on backing vocals with Neil Roberts on guitar with any of these filling in for any other instrumentation required. Songs could be made up recorded and distributed to wind up their targets quickly and efficiently. They were later joined by Paul Rosenfeld on guitar and Dave Hadfield from NCI on bass. For live gigs they recruited whoever they could get their hands on for drums generally using a drum machine for recording. The live gigs proved to be a sticking point as they managed to get banned from every venue they played live in for various misdemeanours! An attempt at getting serious with a variety of rhythm sections never really got beyond the rehearsal stage though a cassette album of original material did surface at some point along the way.
