"DOCTOR D, also known as the 'SURGEON OF SOUND' has earned these nicknames because of the way he manipulates sound and takes you on a journey, from sometimes a chilled african beat to the funkiest house music, the rarest grooves to the sweetest soul. His story reflects the story of music in manchester from the late 70s till the present time. THE DOC (as he is known to his close friends) started out as a soul DJ at a famous Manchester club "THE RENO". 'We had to work from 11pm till about 5am each morning, seven nights a week. That's where I learned to pace myself and read a crowd. During this time i started my first residency in a city center night club 'The Gallery' this was the first major venue to play black music week after week. The soul blues was our first attempt at providing late nite black music for regular people. we would put a sound system into a normal house and run a blues, the house would change every week, to publicize the party's i would announce them on our local pirate station W.B.L.s. where i was a regular DJ hosting various raregrooves, funk and soul shows. this led onto us opening a club we called 'the cue club' this was my favorite 'soul' club the atmosphere was always electric. the sunday nights [ladies night] became a legend amongst the black community of manchester. After these venues closed I started a sound system with some friends, one of whom was Sasha. we would keep parties in houses and play a lot of the new music HOUSE. After we split up I used the equipment as a PA system. We did loads of small raves in clubs like Konspiracy and vogue. I met 808 STATE and joined their DJ team, The Spinmasters . I then met the ORB and joined their DJ team The Three Musketeers '. This story continues..................................................." (Submitted by Dennis Ward. 26.11.07)
