Liam Frost

Liam Frost is a solo artist from Prestwich in North Manchester who writes and performs folk pop. He has also released material with his side project TOKOLOSH.  

Frost began his musical career at the age of 15, performing at the Akoustik Anarkhy nights at The Star and Garter. He began by experimenting with punk bands before moving towards a folk direction and going solo in 2003 at the age of 20.

Frost has often been referred to as a troubadour and was described as "the UK’s answer to Bright Eyes" by Elbow’s Guy Garvey. His songs are very lyrical and greatly influenced by the aftermath of the deaths of his father and brother. 

In 2005 Frost signed a record deal with Lavolta Records, a subsidiary of Sony BMG, releasing his debut album ‘Show Me How The Spectres Dance’ the following year which had been recorded with his band The Slowdown Family. His song ‘The Mourners of St Paul's’ was voted the #1 single of 2006 by Channel 4's Planet Sound.

Frost disbanded his band for his second album ‘We Ain’t Got No Money Honey But We Got Rain’ and recorded material in New York, this time for Columbia Records who had taken over Lavolta. The album featured some collaborations including on the duet ‘Your Hand In Mine’ which was written with Ed Harcourt and recorded with Martha Wainwright. Once the record was completed in 2008 Frost was dropped from the label but after he negotiated for the master tapes he released the album on his own Emperor Records label in 2009.

In 2011 Frost began working on a side project band called TOKOLOSH with brothers Christian and Nicky Madden of The Earlies, The Whip’s Nathan Sudders and drummer Richard Young. The band played a handful of dates as well as recording several sessions for BBC 6 Music and in 2014 they released their debut album ‘Stay Strong’ on the Jack To Phono label.

2014 also saw Frost return to solo work as he began writing material for his third album. He also played a number of acoustic and full band shows including support slots for Liam Fray and The Courteeners. A four track EP called ‘The Wild Places’ containing songs from his new album was released in October 2014 with a second EP entitled 'Courage' planned for release the following year in October 2015. His third, as yet untitled, album is expected to be released in 2016.
