The Waltones

The Waltones were from Whalley Range/Old Trafford and first played in September 1984. Line up: Alex Fyans - Drums Mark Collins – Guitar James Knox - Vocals, Harmonica Manny Lee - Bass, Backing Vocals Lee was the band’s main songwriter. They signed to London based label Medium Cool and released 2 singles in 1987 Downhill & She Looks Right Through Me. In 1988 they issued a third single, Spell It Out, and recorded an album, Deepest. Set for Autumn release the album was delayed until 1989 after Medium Cool’s distributor, Red Rhino, went broke. The majority of the band’s Medium Cool output was co-produced by Nick Garside. In 1990 Medium Cool fizzled out and the band moved to the Midnight Music label. They recorded a second album Re-invent The Wheel co-produced by Kevin Harris. After recording was completed, Fyans left the group to be replaced by Adrian Donohue. The band re-launched themselves as Candlestick Park. One single - All The Time In The World - was issued from the album sessions. However the album was never released and the band split, as Collins went on to greater success with The Charlatans. A CD retrospective of The Waltones' Medium Cool output was issued by Cherry Red in April 2007. (Biog submitted March 2007)
