Born in Rochdale, Audrey Langford attended the Royal College of Music, earning degrees in piano and voice. Under the conductor, Sir Thomas Beecham, Audrey was committed to Covent Garden, playing roles in Wagner's Parsifal, Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, and Charpentier's Louise. Like Anna Pollak (also Manchester born), Audrey also performed for the British troops in World War II, which led to a perforated ear drum ending her performance career. From this point, she became a member of the voice faculty of the RNCM and taught international masterclasses. Audrey was also a distinguished conductor, most particularly of the Bromley Philharmonic Choir and the Kentish Opera Group, both of which she founded.
