Born in Manchester, Robin Martin-Oliver showed a passion for singing from being a boy, when he and his brother joined the local church choir. Robin later went on to study music at university, developing the rare singing discipline of countertenor, which led to an invite from the Royal Northern College of Music, where, through the 1970s, he performed in Aida and the RNCM Baroque Ensemble, to name just a few. Over a career that spanned four decades, Robin performed as a soloist and worked as a director for the Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, and more. He had also worked with the directors Sir Peter Pears, Sir Peter Hall, and Trevor Nunn. Before his passing in 2018, Robin directed community choirs, starting the Wychwood Singers in 2010, and ran vocal workshops.
