Born in Stockport in 1953, Michael Trowski is the son of Albin, the well known visual artist. Michael attended the Northern School of Music and then the Royal Northern School, where he was taught conducting by Maurice Clare and George Hadjikos from 1971-75. In 1975, he began one of the new postgraduate courses at the College, studying under Sir Charles Groves. Michael's career saw him working with the Blackburn Sinfonia (76-96), then the Warrington Second Orchestra (78). From this point, he joined the North Staffs Symphony Orchestra (NSSO) from 79-87, with him being a resident conductor. In the 90s, Michael then worked in the Czech Republic, guest conducting with the Filharmonie Bohuslava Martinů (1994-present), Slezské Divadlo, Opava (1995-1997), and Filharmonie Hradec Králové (1999-present), also working in Slovakia with the East Slovakian State Theatre, Košice (1999-present). Michael has also been guest conductor for the Hong Kong Sinfonietta in collaboration with the Hong Kong Ballet (2000-2001). As well as being a freelance musician and conductor, Michael has also been an influential teacher.
