Oddfellows Hall
Located on Grosvenor Street, Manchester, Oddfellows Hall was constructed in 1857 and rebuilt in the early 20th century. In its striking Edwardian Baroque style, the hall once belonged to the Oddfellows Society, a non-political group that still strive to promote good will. Officially founded in 1810, some believe the society dates back all the way to 587 BC. The society's emblem features three links, which represent the Oddfellow motto of friendship, love, and truth. The building, which includes Art Nouveau tiling and terrazzo flooring, was purchased by The University of Manchester in the 1960s. Since then, Oddfellows Hall has been University offices, the University's Language Centre, and acted as the headquarters for the 2004 merger between the Victoria University of Manchester and UMIST. It now acts as an extension to the University's Engineering deparment, MECD.
