Manchester Guitar Circle
The Manchester Guitar Circle was founded in 1946 by Terry Usher (1909-69) and his pupil John W. Duarte (1919-2004). A report in the October 1946 edition of BMG magazine suggests the inaugural meeting probably took place in May of that year. In addition to its informal monthly gatherings of members, the MGC developed into a concert society, playing host to a wide range of internationally-acclaimed performers, including a visit by John Williams in 1970. The MGC remains active at the time of writing (June 2024) and meets on the first Thursday of every month at the United Services Club in Sale.
