Manchester District Music Archive has received a confirmed grant of £42,000 from Heritage Lottery Fund in support of the 'Defining Me: Musical Adventures in Manchester' project, which will be delivered in partnership with
The Lowry.
The 5-month project will include:
- a large-scale physical exhibition at The Lowry charting the cultural and social significance of Greater Manchester music, as told by members of MDMArchive's online community
- a calendar of events including film screenings, talks, and a collaborative community concert
- an oral histories project involving 10 volunteers from across the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester
- a relaunch of our existing website plus a brand new 'Defining Me' micro-site, which will allow our members to curate their own online exhibitions

MDMArchive is a user-led community archive established to celebrate Greater Manchester music and its social history.
We are a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers.
Our archive currently contains over 8500 scanned artefacts, including photos, press articles, flyers, posters, tickets and video footage.
