(us on a computer screen, yesterday!)
This week the MDMArchive website was nominated for a
Big Chip Award in the not-for-profit section.
Although the site has only been live for just over 4 months, we now have over 630 members and new artefacts are being uploaded by the public on an almost hourly rate. Already the site has become a great resource for fans and students, and a place of interest for those merely browsing the web. You can help us get nearer to the prize by spreading the word and asking your friends to have a look and get uploading!
We have also just updated our
Myspace site. Please take a look and join our lovely circle of friends. We have posted some of our videos up there for all to see but we will not be using myspace as a 'second' site, merely as an advert for this one.
The amazing
Stockport Plaza has been awarded £77,000 to help it proceed on its million pound Heritage Lottery Fund bid to restore the building to its 1930s Art-Deco glory. The venue has an important history, both in theatre, variety and music and still puts on pop concerts and revues, usually with a past-times feel, as well as being a popular cinema. The Plaza still has its beautiful Compton theatre organ which rises from below the floor and is internally lit.
Good luck to 'em, we hope they get all the funding they need.
The Metro News carried on with its rather surprising and odd rally against dress code policies at Manchester clubs this week. Only last month they gave a whole page to a story about a group of lads who couldn't get into a club in The Printworks due to the type of 'smart' stripey shirts they were wearing. This week it's another bunch of unfortunate 20-something men that weren't allowed into Sankeys Soap for wearing clothes that 'aren't funky enough'. One of the party had specially bought his shirt from George at Asda!
Marketing Manchester have launched music as a 'slipstream' product for Manchester's tourist industry. To help the cause a series of podcasts have been commissioned featuring famous Manchester music luminaries such as Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, writer John Robb, and New Order's Peter Hook.
You can download these free at
www.visitmanchester.com/podcasts Apparently Noel Gallagher, who although performing at the event failed to join Ian Brown and Mani on stage for last weeks Versus Cancer finale, held his own aftershow party at the Malmaison Hotel.
Also VC organiser Andy Rourke said that he is thinking of making next year's event a four day outdoor festival. Could be interesting... (MEN)
If you have heard an interesting Manchester music story this week, or have been involved in something please email it to us and we'll stick up here for posterity.
