Manchester revellers kissed goodbye to Castlefield's annual one-day festival, Dpercussion, yesterday (August 4th). First held as a defiant response to the IRA bomb, Dpercussion has been a summer tradition for ten years, but has become impossible to fund due to a lack of big-name sponsors.
Manchester bands that wowed the crowd on a surprsingly rain-free afternoon included Sisters of Transistors, The Whip, The Answering Machine, The KBC and The Courteeners. Badly Drawn Boy popped down for a solo acoustic set and to say his goodbyes to an event that gave him one of his early breaks.
The fallout of New Order’s recent split continues it would seem, after bassist Peter Hook hit out at the rest of the veteran indie outfit.
Hooky released a statement via his MySpace site after former colleagues Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris reportedly declared the band were still active and planned to record new material.
Addressing the singer and drummer, he said: "This group has split up!
“You are no more New Order than I am!
“You may have two thirds, but don't assume you have the rights to do anything 'New Order-ey', because you don't. I've still got a third! But I'm open to negotiation."
He signed the statement off by writing, "See you in court!"

(Source: MEN)A pair of Mancunian musicians are setting aside the usual desires of rock stardom to release a charity download they hope will raise awareness of the suffering caused by Alzheimer’s disease.
Damian Morgan and Mike Doyle are donating all the profits from their new single, The Dimming Of The Light, to the Alzheimer’s Society, a charity that is very close to Damian’s heart.
"My mother is now in the final stages of the disease and it has had a massive effect on the family and friends," Damian explains.
"The physical person is still there but personality and everything that the person once was slowly fades away."
"I wanted to express the frustration, anger and sadness that I have felt as a son watching dementia rob my mum of her life. In the past, other people’s poetry has helped me release a lot of pent up feelings that I couldn't articulate myself. I hope this song has the same effect on others."
The Dimming Of The Light is available for download from Tues 28 Aug.

Apparently Timbaland chose the location after admiring the architecture of the railway arches along Chapel Street while staying at the five-star Lowry Hotel in Salford.
(Source: Dianne Bourne, MEN)Manchester's late summer holiday to Cambridgeshire is off. With a line-up including Badly Drawn Boy, Polytechnic, The Whip, The Answering Machine and (We Are) Performance, Lodestar Festival looked like a home from home until the weather - and resulting poor ticket sales - stepped in.
Following a cancellation for new Welsh festival Fflam and a postponement until September for long-running Oxfordshire indie bash Truck, the new three day event in the Cambridgeshire village of Lode has become the latest victim of Britain's sodden summer. In a statement issued today, the festival organisers said:
"LodeStar, an independent event, offered something unique with a credible line up and purity in its ethos. Landowner, festival organiser and music lover Doug Durrant is deeply saddened by this difficult decision. He had hoped the event would bring something special to the community and give festival goers a truly memorable weekend. Regretfully, his teenage ambition to stage a festival on the land his family have farmed for four generations has had to be postponed.
