2016 marks the fiftieth anniversary of Bob Dylan’s incendiary ‘Judas’ gig at Manchester Free Trade Hall - a gig that has has been hailed as one of the twenty most important moments in rock history, the electrifying night the young American poet clashed head on with the traditionalist die-hards of the folk scene.

Manchester District Music Archive is celebrating this outstanding concert with a fundraising concert of our own, to be held on Tuesday 17th May 2016 at a city centre venue. The evening will see Dylan’s set list from that night performed by a collection of Manchester’s finest musicians, each group or performer playing one song from the original 1966 concert.

The concert will raise funds for MDMarchive - now a registered charity.

New project: Manchester Music, Politics and Protest

We are currently fundraising for a new programme of activity exploring the history of music, politics and protest in Greater Manchester. We will shortly be sending out an online survey that will enable you - our online community - to share your thoughts on this subject with us. Look out for it.

New MDMarchive Mixcloud page

We've started a new Mixcloud page of podcasts, DJ mixes and mixtapes from our online community. We are looking for new mixes or podcasts that celebrate the less well-known scenes and artists of Greater Manchester Music, contemporary and historical. We'd also like to hear live DJ sets (club or radio) from days gone by.
