“Me and my mate moved the cordoned off tape in front of the PA and stood there. Prior to this we'd bought a couple tickets for the Gods but arrived early and helped the roadies, came in through the stage. A couple of (underage) beers in the side bar, pulled a couple of gals (not underage) and lost the use of our hearing for a full two weeks. Happy days.”
Jet were (besides being quite pretentious) Andy Ellison (ex Johns Children) Martin Gordon (ex Sparks) Chris Townson (ex Johns Children, Jook) David O'List (Ex Nice, Roxy Music) Peter Oxendale, (Ex Sparks) They lasted a year before becoming 'Radio Stars' quite an apt name given their self belief.”
“Remember these nights at the Midland well, though from the late 70's. With various folks joining in, I recall a Manchester jazz trumpeter whose name escapes me, there was Vinni Reilly, Hooky I think, etc, but the person I remember most of all was outrageous Alan on vocals, who came on stage to 'Honky Tonk Women' I recall the peas and rise night, the stripper in the bin bag night etc, I always thought they were called 'The Rockin' Jam Rolls'”
“Besides attending the above Bowie gig, I also recall an excellent Slade gig at the Hardrock (with Suzi Quatro in support, she was announced as being a local lass from Chorlton). I also remember the toad stool seats and a sticky carpet, I also saw a few other bands there but memory fails, it was a sad day when the place closed as a music venue.”
