“The Ramones had a bit of trouble with the vocals, too - Dee Dee screaming "One! One! One!" into a dead mike, then going over and plugging Joey's in for him after he'd kicked the stand into the crowd, screaming "Just one more, man, that's all!" at the guy on the mixing desk.
They played every song but one from both albums in just over an hour, coming on + going off through the crowd, past the blankets and egg-cartons lining the walls. The heat detuned the guitars ferociously, so that by the second time they played 'Sheena Is A Punk Rocker' it was unrecognisable. Johnny left his jacket on stage at the end and I grabbed it and...ran over and gave it him back (D'oh!).
I remember thinking how strange it was to see them in colour for the first time!”
