“I think this invitation was a bit later than 1962 - the reason I know is because the typefaces were popular in the late 60s/early 70s. The flyers, tickets and invites were made with Letraset [instant transfer dry lettering] ... I worked for Comprehensive Art Services around 1971/2, located at the top floor of Courtlets House in King Street West. The basement of that building was George Best's other club .. [can't remember the name though] ... Later it was Apartment 38 and Berlin. CAS was owned by John Hebb and Stuart Beckett and we produced the artwork for Slack's and other clubs around town. This was one of their pieces of work, you can't miss the style ... they also producred work for Oscars and The Dorian Grey Suite ... ! - I'll dig them all out and post them. - Glenn ;o)”
“These leaflets were produced in the style of 'Freaky Dancing' fanzine, produced by my bro's mates ... their fanzine was a big hit and they handed them out to the punters whilst queing up to go into the club ...”
“Oh I remember this, I was Santa Claus! we dressed up and made a grotto in the club ... and got well pissed on the night... the photos of this Christmas event were on the stairwell to the upstairs offices above the Haci. Then then Nude New Years party with Dj's MP2 =Mike Pickering and Martin Prendergast [little martin]...”
“I remember meeting Ruth Polski from Danceteria whilst working at the Hac. Mike Pickering was 'instrumental' in all of the above connections with Danceteria and Mark Kamins ... good times hey and I even refused Madonnas bra!”
“Yes, twas me who did the semi-transparent paper flyers for Temperance Club. The story of Ran Poner was that the artwork was produced in my studio and then sent to the printers, who in turn then sent me an invoice for the printing marked RAN PONER - at the same time I did some flyers for A Certain Ratio and the very same printer sent my invoice marked 'Al Certun Racio' lol ! true!”
“Oh, just realised this version is the flyer .. but there were posters too. I remember doing them and eventually got an invoice from the Screen Printer who titled the job : RAN PONER!”
“I remember this poster because I designed and produced it. Also did the Temperance Club posters for Dave Haslam's night too, but can't remember which one came first .. [so long ago] Glenn ;o)”
