“The Stranglers also had their gear pinched around the same time which spawned the song "Dead Loss Angeles" ....”

“Japan cancelled themselves because the only people in attendance were the mayflower staff, myself being one of them . After they'd dismantled their gear the crew kindly drove up on the pavement and tried to run me over on Hyde road as a thank you for being one of the single figures in attendance , Nice.”

“I used to be 50 % of the in house road crew for the Russel Club circa 79/80 . It was my first ever job and consisted of playing pool a lot , glass collecting and avoiding Tex the bouncer who despised the fact that I was working there underage (14) he hissingly refferred to me as Blood Clot , after visiting Jamaica many years later I found out this had nothing to do with platelets and corpuscles but was more connected with a womens sanitary cloth , he also called me Bum Clot quite a lot ...but we won't go there .
I learned recently Tex was shot in the leg at a Shabeen and bled to death , basically because everyone was so out of their heads they didn't realise he was dying on them .
I saw a lot of great bands in that club , Stiff Little Fingers , Magazine , Bauhaus , Ruts , Furs , Joy Division , Wire , UB40 , who were excellent at that time and the Damned who had to have a matinee for the kids from the crescents because of the noise abatement people in the local community center , lots of ten year olds bopping around to Neat Neat Neat , then going home for their tea.
It's a shame they knocked it down considering what went on there , but let's face it the area was a dump and I should know I lived there .”

“Cyril was the security at Virgin on Market street for a time , where funnily enough Muppet used to work , and where I used to wag school .
I wrote a song for Armed Force called " Running in Silence " they may or may not have recorded this for a Peel session ....it's all a very long time ago but I know they demo'd it at least . I was about 15 at the time , Muppet and I shared a flat at Arnesby walk in Moss Side where Mike Joyce used to crash over on Friday nights when he was trying to pull at the University disco ...he had a disgusting habit of frying eggs in the chip pan .
If you're reading this Mike I'd like my record player back that you said your Dad would fix , I know you have it .....it's in the background in your garden on that Smiths DVD you did with Andy Rourke !”

“I did , and we got paid £75.00 if I recall plus there was a crate of ( warm) Special Brew laid on , I was disappointed the revolving stage didn't actually revolve on the night .
The Event group were a bunch of performance artists who were running around the place annoying everybody .”

“The guy who used to run it was a Jamaican called Neville .

He was approached by Bernie Rhodes when the Clash were doing their On Parole Tour gigs at the Apollo just down the road.

They wanted to play a secret gig there , he told them to get lost as he had never heard of them .

I almost collapsed ....”
