“They were some tops nights - I used to do the Hac on the Friday then Freedom on the Saturday - the place was bouncing. I had a spot on the stage at the far right as you looked at it - spent all night there but I used to love the bar upstairs where you could look down as things got going”
“I went - I didn't have a ticket so went up there on the off chance and stood outside. I had about 12 quid and the touts were asking for 30 quid so it looked like it was going to be a wasted journey, then out of nowhere this guy walks up to me and offers me a ticket for ten quid - his mate couldn't come and he didn't want the touts to make out of it - the number of people I have told that story to over the years :-) I lost my ticket along the way (folks cleared out my room when they moved long after I had gone and threw it out with my other stuff - I used to have it stapled to the pull out from the Queen is Dead album) but I was about 10 rows back in the middle of the stalls - amazing gig.”
“I was there - I worked at the GUS warehouse in Trafford Park at the time and one of the guys who worked there got (no idea how) 3 back stage passes. Four of us went so I had to wait outside while the others went in and then one of them came out with two of the wrist bands and I put one on and went in. I went on the Sunday and saw the last four bands on - ACR, Electronic, 808 State and the Mondays. Great day out and lots of dancing :-)”
“I was there as fresh faced just 15 year old school (45 now) kid. I also lived in Wilmslow at the time and my mates dad drove us up there with side eyes at all the mad haircuts passing by on buses/walking down the street. I remember the first support act came on and most people were sat down so not having been to many gigs at that stage (mostly the Apollo where you had a seat) we stood near the front. The second support band didn't come on and after what seemed like an age during which the crowd got more and more worked up, the Damned came on we all realised that 15 year old lads from Wilmslow shouldn't stand at the front! I was used as a support for some frenzied pogoing and after 30 seconds of what felt like a near death experience I managed to escape to the side where we regrouped and watched the rest of the gig...all in all a top night out and more than a bit of an eye opener. It was the only punk gig I ever went to.”
