“I was at this gig. Me and my future wife were huge fans because we were Melody Maker-readers and didn't care what the massed ranks of snidey NME readers thought of the band. We wanted to jump up and down to the 'Pop Is Dead' EP. This was the first Radiohead gig I would see, the first of very many over the years. I didn't know what to expect. I turned up with few expectations. My mind was blown. I'd never seen a band with three guitarists on stage. I leaned over to my friend half way through and said, "This band will play stadiums." I had no idea how right I was, the sound seemed to want to burst out of the tiny Walls of The Hop and Grape venue.
After the onslaught I remember Thom coming back out of the dressing room, all difficult with a shock of bright white spikey bleached hair, answering questions and handing out plectrums.
It was one of the most important gigs of my life.”
