Yeah, I miss Poz loads as well. When he was in London, he mentioned you. Another sad thing is, we'd kind of fallen out and weren't speaking for a couple of years before he died. There's a lesson to be learned in that.”
It's very strange looking at that photo, as I have no other pictures from those days. Nice one Foz, much appreciated.
The only other images I've seen of any of us are just faces in the crowd from the old 'So It Goes' footage, bouncing around at the Electric Circus and the Elizabethan Belle Vue to the Clash, etc.”
“Shades of No-One did a number of gigs at the Wishing Well around this time, before falling apart in fairly acrimonious circumstances. I was the guitarist.
Prior to this, we were known as the Submergers and originally, Chaos 4. The Submergers/Chaos 4 also included Beano (Dave Croker, if I remember correctly) on guitar and Hilly (Dave Hillman?) on bass.
I left Manchester in 1980 and lost track of a lot of people on the local scene. I only really stayed in contact with our singer, Poz, who sadly died a few years back.
Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the band, although there is a very dodgy tape recording of one of our gigs lying around.
So, if anyone out there has pics, please add them.
“Yep, I'm doing okay. Been round and about over the years, these days I'm in Leicester and haven't lived in Manchester since 1980 - though I still get up there occasionally... in fact, you'll find me loitering around at a benefit gig at Gullivers on 11 December :) I never really kept in touch with anyone from those days, except Poz (RIP). I'm not in any bands at the minute - the last one was a couple of years ago, an all lesbian punk band in Leicester called 'Pussy Galore' (I was the... ahem... 'honorary lesbian'). We used to regularly play the Prides in Leics and Notts.”
“I just had a look at that Cargo picture!!! I was a bit of a slim jim there... you wouldn't recognise me now after a lifetime of pies and cheese butties. I don't have any SONO pics - maybe my brother does, I'll ask - though there is a very dodgy tape recording around somewhere. I submitted some brief info on SONO last night but it's not up yet.”
“Foz, it's Rob from Shades of No One here. Yes, I remember that Snoopy's gig and the weird net thing. I left Manchester in 1980 and lost contact with nearly everyone. Funnily enough, I think I was at your Cargo recording as well.”
