“I don't I'm afraid - that's an incredible fact though! It was Spring of 1979, because a friend of mine went to live on a Kibbutz a few weeks later. Maybe we stood shoulder to shoulder, jostling for autographs!”
“I still have a tape of Toss the Feathers at the International, supporting Mary Margaret O'Hara I think (and what a gig that was). They were a great band, a unique blend of Manc and Irish, and great musicians. I wonder what happened to them?”
“I met Howard in a similar pose after an Apollo gig in 1979 (Simple Minds supporting!) As he was signing an autograph my friend playfully touched his dome, and Howard intoned in that sinister monotone "Who's measuring my head?"”
“Wow, was it really 29 years ago? I was at this as well - I was a police officer in Bolton at the time and had been working a Wanderers match in the afternoon. On my way up from Burnden Park I called in in uniform while they were soundchecking. They made me very welcome - they were good guys. Also saw The Buzzcocks and The Fall during this brief season of concerts at this venue. I remember sitting on the floor in the bar with a load of others when a colleague of mine, an old Inspector, came in on a routine visit and scowled around at everybody. Some kids next to me were bricking it, but when he left one said "Huh! He was taking his life coming in here, wasn't he?"”
