Waiting In The Wings by Noel Coward, staged by the Northern School of Music. I wonder if Coward ever learned of their production? I can't see any reviews but I bet it was at least funny. It was only released 6 or 7 years before this.

Idomeneo, an opera by Mozart, staged by the Northern School of Music. I can't find any reviews for the production so far but no doubt they made the best of the limited space on the Lesser Free Trade Hall stage.

The Hallé, John Wilson
Free Trade Hall, Northern School Of Music (NSM)
Programme, 1967
Honouring the 33rd year of Elgar's death, the Northern School of Music programme "The Apostles". The Free Trade Hall extended its platform for The Apostles. All performers were past/present student/teachers of the school and included “principal flute of the CBSO, several Hallé principals, and many other distinguished musicians.”
It suited conductor Maurice Handford so well “that its character was all too well suitably reproduced, whereas a less convinced conductor might have tried (and some have succeeded) to inject more life into the first part and to discover more variety in expression than we heard.”

Northern School Of Music (NSM), Renold Theatre (UMIST)
Programme, 1966
Another effort by the Northern School of Music drama course. I *think* this is an original work, using classical music pieces woven in a plot to create a new whole narrative. It is described by the Guardian advert as “a programme of play extracts and dance drama on the theme of war”, devised and directed by Gerald McNally. I can't see a review of it so sadly we may never know what on earth happened on stage that night. If you remember it please do let me know.

A summer concert by the Northern School of Music. Four Bagatelles seems a popular one by Rawsthorne. It was written nearly 30 years before this concert but is still considered a new work in comparison to most classical music repertoire performed at the time.

A brass concert! Early days of the NSM there were no brass students. Mainly because the founder was a pianist with no other staff to teach other instruments but also it was primarily female students and it was traditionally discouraged for a woman to put anything in her mouth...
It looks like not much had changed but big up the female timpanist!
