Short press article about the Smiths pulling out of the Futurama Festival at Queens Hall Leeds. There are varying stories about why, they were recording their debut album at the time which is one reason, the other is the one mentioned in the article that they didn't fancy supporting the Bay City Rollers.

Advert for Altered Images at the Hammersmith Palais. For reasons I've yet to discover The Smiths were taken off the bill and didn't play.

Advert for gigs at St Austell (17th Oct) and Llandudno (28th Oct), these were part of The Queen is Dead tour. The St Austell was my first Smiths gig so holds some wonderful memories. The Llandudno gig was cancelled following events at the Preston gig the night before. Morrissey was hit by a flying drumstick and the gig was abandoned during the first song.

The Smiths were described on advertisements as a “Mancunian 5-piece whose sound, though difficult to pigeon hole, leans towards pop and the dance floor”. I’m not convinced that would have piqued my interest if I’d seen the advert. According to Johnny Marr it was ‘very sparsely attended’.
