Ellen Arthan 1876-1950
Ellen was a pianist who started her musical education with the Royal Manchester College of Music in 1896 when she was 20 years old. She stayed a fair while, gaining various accolades in performance, including the Dayas Gold Medal in 1906, as well as teaching, before graduating in 1907. As well as performing in various concert series, she was also an occasional soloist for the Hallé Orchestra through the 1930s and 1940s. she died in 1950, after a distinguished teaching career both at the Royal Manchester College of Music and the Manchester High School for Girls.
