Arthur Catterall post-1920

Arthur Catterall (1883-1943) was born in Preston and early on was noted for his skill as a violinist. Somewhat of a child prodigy, he was being granted lessons under Adolph Brodsky at the Royal Manchester College of Music when still a young child. He became leader of the Halle Orchestra 1913-1925, then BBC orchestra (from 1929) & also own string quartet. In the 1920s he was also invited back to the RMCM to teach the violin.

This concert was in aid of the fund to establish a scholarship to the memory of the late Dr. Brodsky. There is a list of donations received up-to-date.. This concert took place in the Free Trade Hall on Friday 15 March 1929. The Orchestra was led by Arthur Catterall and was conducted by R.J. Forbes; it consisted of 100 past and present students of the Royal Manchester College of Music.
