“Advert for 'Slates' by The Fall. Mark E. Smith was fond of 'in-house' adverts for Fall releases, and the flower motif plus the description of Rough Trade as an 'Apple Corps for the Eighties' (as in the Beatles' record company) say so much. They express the same sorts of class, regional and hippie/punk tensions as those in 'Pam Ponders' and elsewhere in City Fun, probably the reason why Liz Naylor claims there was a special affinity between The Fall and the paper.”
