“An interesting reflection from a Manchester Musicians Collective member which summarises City Fun's stance at this point. Just like nowadays, the word 'fanzine' was contentious - here it is rejected because the editors feel it suggests a lack of objectivity and professionalism. They're also self-aware about the very funny sniping and carping sometimes straying beyond the anti-elitist teasing of scenesters into the realms of pointless spite. The fact that this came out of an open meeting and ends with a call to write more about how music gets made shows how City Fun was part of that brilliant, enthusiastic post-punk insistence on the importance of democracy and the economic side of popular music.”
