Prag VEC. The Factory. Fri dec 1st. Abit of an intellectuals night out... and poseurs... the scene...black leather, shiny. It's not that full but it's freezing outside. THE NORMAL are on when i get there- tape loops(?) electronic devices a machine i'd not seen before. 2 people. the noise is ok - didn't rivet my attention. up and down the scales bubbling flowing, runs. riffing. what else? ? ..... Most people seem to be talking, getting drinks, trying to keep warm. some people watch listen.
Prag VEC have a vocalist, aguitarist, a bass player, a drummer; they might have had someone pl aying keyboards. the vocalist wears a woolen dress with hoops of colour- green, yellow, red. she wears black stockings, also woolen. she sometimes reminds me of Polystyrene- sounds similar. She moves on stage a series of jerks, short sharp motions. controlled. spontaneous. planned. They all look at home on stage. happy being there. empathy. they care about their music. Their music- new wave influenced, fast tempo, avante gardeoff beat what the fuck. Bullshit or brilliant?. intellectual. i liked the words. danceable some did. a lot watched, a lot clapped. *******(**)***** .....Frame of reference Pere Ubu, Gang of Four, Prag Vec. This is one plae place the energy from 76 is going..... the energy of '78.....coming soon.....the energy of 79... fucking brilliant, isn't it?
and it all looks flat/grey
cos we havent got the cash
Floating Anarchy free tour. Bolton Institute of Technology. Wilful Damage. The Fall. Here and Now. Mon 4th Dec. Walking up the path outside it sounded like The Fall were on; we get in and find out that it's Wilful Damage. They sound pretty good, we go and get a drink. Intersting mix of people- 'hippys' with woolen hats and 'punks'. No tension at all; 'punks', 'hippys' both LABELS given by the press; false divides. Everyones here for the music, no one paid to get in. good. The Fall, sounding good, 'slight technical hitch' when the power kept cutting out half way through numbers they cut there set short (i thin think). must be dead frustrating. Here and Now lots of space wisper cosmic sounds a light show really acid(?) Gong, Steve Hillage etc. a lot of people enjoyed it, danced. Here and Now travel round in a bus playing for free. great i wish more bands did. do something constructive about the biz. Given away free (where they get the money from fuck knows) is a magazine- some of which looks pretty good bits by Patrik Fitzgerald Mark Perry Here and Now etc. Some of it's a bit'( 'cosmic' for my taste. there's an article on 'How to at least make a start on completely fucking up the music buisiness' a step in the right direction. Unfortunately Patrik Fitzgerald didn't turn up.

Decadence in our time:
any main road in rush hour-how many cars go past with one person in.
Piccadilly-perfectly good old style telephone boxes get replaced with new style telephone boxes.
