“Brilliant! what a great gig this was, it also happened to be my 18th Birthday! If there really is a heaven when I get there (hopefully I can get signed in) St Peter will throw open those pearly gates and there will be Cavendish house in the late 70's early 80's and my hair will return and my man boobs and beer belly will magically disappear!”
“I can recall this gig for two reasons; 1. I wasn't there & 2. I was at my Mam's wallpapering a spare room, woodchip if you must know, while listening to it on the wireless....(I actually wrote the names of the bands I liked at the time all over the walls before covering them over; I'd like to think Duran Duran/ Spandau Ballet etc.weren't in there....)..During the concert Peter Shelley made a dedication to Ian Curtis who'd only died a few day previous; this couldn't have been too long after their support gig at The Apollo when J.D. couldn't figure how to turn off the feedback from their equipment after they'd finished.Hope you're right about The Cavendish Abdom, especially if it's late '70s prices...33p a pint as I recall....? B.T.W. there's nowt wrong with man boobs! They can be quite fetching actually.....;)”
“I loved the Cavendish building for gigs and I remember this one as a 16 year old because I loved Buzzcocks and also because when I was queuing for tickets a couple of days before my friend joined me and told me Ian Curtis was dead. A sad day then but did not stop me pogoing around at the gig. Life goes on as we all must have found out in the decades since
I am sure Shelley began the gig with the words 'If you dont mind I dont mind' in his camp way (no insult intended) and then everyone statrted going mental.”
“I was in a similar position to Dubwise-er, i.e. not there. I do remember recording it from medium wave and being very disappointed when they faded it out before the end. It was the first time I heard 'What Do You Know?' and I remember being blown away by it. I wonder if this has ever been repeated on Six Music?”
