Artefact
From City Life , issue 252, April ’94.
Review of The Fall’s 18th (!) album, “Middle Class Revolt”; God knows what number they must be up to now.....?
Other stuff in this issue:-The front cover and main article a “homage to Catelonia” and all things Spanish.
Interview with Kevin Coyne and mention of his near miss at becoming the new singer with The Doors; well I never...
An add for a R.A.R. Carnival in London on 28th May, with coaches running from Ayres Rd. Seems surprising looking back that it was still in full swing.....
Article by new journalist on the block Steve Cochrane, regarding the Yorkshire Ripper. Remember going past Southern Cemetery one morning which was all taped off near Hough End after the police discovered yet another victim. It certainly caused a lot of fear and alarm around that time and it didn’t help that the recorded message of the alleged perpetrator, which was given extensive exposure and was quite chilling, turned out to be bogus.
An add for the annual Bluegrass festival in Edale which we went up to one year; and with the Yankee exponents, if you could bypass the scent of the Grand Clan breakfast and hints of long pointy hats, were thoroughly enjoyable.
Well that’s it, no more, finis, end of!! Phew! That’s all of the mags and papers I found round last Christmas. Seems like eons ago and took me way longer than I expected but it was a job lot and felt I had to see it through. Hope I haven’t cluttered up the site with unnecessaries but hopefully, some of these uploads have been useful or may be down the track.
I think with the City Life’s I covered about 20 odd issues out of what must be hundreds; that’s a lot of info out there, though there’s bound to be quite a few covered already. If the site has a use for them you’re welcome to them as I doubt whether I’ll be flicking through them again; once every 20 or so years is just about enough.
Still got a few bits and bobs to go and then it’ll be goodnight Vienna. Gonna treat meself to a cup of Earl Grey and a vague-out in front of the telly. Laters....
