“If this was circa 1982, it was also the early days of the CB breakers' clubs, and Smugglers was the venue for one of these called 'The Downtown Breakers Club'. Run by a shady character known as "Liverpool Lad" I was approached to DJ there in my guise as "Starman" one night per week for it. Many more of these CB clubs soon sprung up at other venues supported by the proliference of 27mg broadcasting, 10-4 for sure good buddies Lol...”
“Curse Ben on bass, Eddie on drums the Creth bros on guitar Jim and I am the pretty darn good looking one on the right as backing vocals and percussion with Sue on the left Smugglers was near the steps in Stocky. There’s a website for alternative music in Stockport that gives a description.of some of the bands activities. I played with them at Smugglers and Hazel Grove and a couple of others It was good fun. I went on to learn African rhythm with Tommy Odueso in Cheetam Hill and played in his band Afro Komono around the north west including Band on the Wall. Other members travelled around the world”
