Artefact
From City Life, March ’84, in the “Pop” column. Review of gig at The Manhattan. Found out while uploading to the site that Barton’s the bloke responsible for the “Lester Pigott” vocal on the outro of James’ “Sit Down” 12”; ood a thowt? That explains the time the band recorded “Come Home” on the grass in front of Chaz Baz Cresc. Hulme ,which turned out to be in front of his gaff; obviously they were plugged into his grid and they must have been a bit of an item back then. One time I left a jacket at someone’s flat and when I popped round the next day to pick it up, for whatever reason he answered the door, shuffling on a zimmer frame, hunched up like Quasimodo and spazzin’ out good style; not sure for who’s benefit...anyway I said, alright mate, I’ve come for me jacket, no need for the gala performance etc...and proceeded forthwith to retrieve my garment; felt like boppin’ him. Definitely an odd character but the stuff he did with Jane was nice enough.
