Flyer
A Certain Ratio, New Order
Beach Club at Oozit's
1980

A Beach Club flyer sent in by Jon Savage.

According to New-Order.net, the band's first gig was on 29th July 1980 at The Beach Club and they were billed as the 'No-Names'.

Here we see mention of 'The Names' from Belgium on July 30th.

Hmmm....

“Abagail: Hello, this is the person who maintains new-order.net. In light of this information, I've corrected the listing, though I have to work on the date discrepancy, as other sources also list 1980-07-29 when it should be clearly 30th Jul.”

“I am fairly sure I was there, it was certainly touted as their (NO) first gig. If I remember correctly Metropolis was showing, I think they played about 4-5 songs?
Have to say it was fairly rough.
ACR also played”

“new order first gig was in Sheffield 1980 dodgy club with dodgy female sax player
Still the Beach Club off Balloon St was the place to be back then. Three floors ! Top floor bands played in near darkness,
middle floor retro horror films, the Hand, to an on going background soundtrack of Fade to Grey. Downstairs you had to get out for fresh air!”
