Things you could get up to in the early 80’s, like hire a struggling club. I do recall a couple getting married for the sole purpose of having a party there; pretty daft thing to do... Wonder if it was ever hired out for evangelical meetings, tuppaware conventions etc. Be interesting to know......., Thinking of religious meetings (like you do...), just remembered the dodgy old bezzer who used to hassle the good citizens of the city centre as they used to make their way along Deansgate ,near the John Rylands building in the late 70’s, early ‘80’s. He must have been the wrangler for what turned out to be the fledgeling Scientoligists and was always trying to coerce people into this hall to undertake some hocus pocus tests. You wouldn’t even buy a used car off this fella. For all I know he could still be there....Geez he was an annoying c**t! (Where did that memory come from, phew!).
I think the lady at the bottom of the page was the reason why Gerry Dammers was seen around town for a while; a bit of a scoop on juicy ‘80’s gossip.....etc.

“One thing it was hired out for was a local college party sometime in the 80s, which (I'm told) turned out to be quite a debauched affair, kids eh!”
