My mam always said if you can't say anything nice about someone say nuthin' at all so I'll just say I couldn't be doin' with the band; just all seemed a bit try hard to me. Actually I was listening to a Moss Side pirate station one time while making me tea; it was a Sunday and it happened to be a gospel show. Well I don't know what happened but the next thing the young lady announced in a Jamaican accent the next song was by The Jesus and Mary Chain. I was a bit baffled and a few minutes later halfway through the track she faded it out and quickly, with some sort of flustered apology, went to a Mahalia Jackson track or some such. I can only think that, due to the band name, she must have thought it was some sort of gospel album....funny....and about the closest I ever got to liking them.
Primal Scream just toured here and were v. good by all accounts.

“Brilliant story!”

“I was at the J&MC gig. I remember the hype surrounding them at the time and then someone being carried out with what might have been a broken limb. However, I think the unlucky punter slipped on the wet floor rather than being involved in some band fracas.”

“I also went to this gig on the back of the 'new Sex Pistols hype' that was surrounding the band at the time, but i spent the night skulking in the booths at the back. They played earlier in the year supported by the Pastels and Primal Scream, this gig was sandwiched between the two infamous riots in London.”
