Artefact

Other
Astoria (Rawtenstall)
1965

Reference the Christmas 1965 poster for the Astoria, Rawtenstall. I worked there on the nights advertised, and worked at the "Old Astoria" for a few months up to its closure, then at the" New Astoria" from its opening until about February 1969.

The "Old AS" was a safety officer's nightmare, but had tremendous atmosphere. The New was apparently designed by a tee-total, non-dancing member of an extreme religious sect. No atmosphere whatsoever, which was made worse at its first redecoration

“Do you have any artefacts, particularly a poster or flyers from the Rawtenstall Astoria? We're including a section in our sixties exhibition at the Rossendale museum in August and would love to include some genuine artefacts. you can email me on mradprice@gmail.com”
