I think this was early on , when they came off the dancefloor and started doing it for themselves. On the way in Gerry Dammers was in the queue ‘cos apparently he was stepping out with a young lady in the Hacienda management don't y'know...; and when we got in a mate found 60 squid so we had extra beers, and extra peas and gravy to go with our extra chips and Holland’s pie (food of the Gods!) that night.
The Ticket below was obviously to get mid week punters in, when no dress restrictions applied . Funny, ‘cos like Rotters, normally you couldn’t get in without a jacket and tie and had to take earrings out, (not too sure what their policy was on Prince Alberts ...).
Even though for the most part it had always been a “straight” club (for want of a much better word) ,I’d always had good nights in there; and it wasn’t just because of the low stage with its fibreglass rocky outcrops and 100 % guaranteed plastic palm trees, adding to its air of sophistication; it might have had something to do with the security being more doormen than bouncers that made the difference. Also it had a good sound system and wasn't a dump.
