Says at the top "Despite the recession".That must have been the post "winter of discontent " one and the warm up one for the late Eighties full scale version. Ah those so necessary boom and bust cycles of the sacrosanct global capitalist system; back with a predictable vengeance . Hope all those widowed grannies of a certain income bracket , with their somewhat well endowed portfolios, haven't lost any sleep or been too adversely effected by the aftershocks of the current financial meltdown. I usually find a quick round of golf just before Elevenses does the trick.......Monochrome Set; definitely a band of substance at the time; still got “He’s Frank”, but I wouldn’t even know how to whistle it in the shower...
Used to go the soul/reggae thing occasionally on a Wednesday but it was usually quiet; then more than likely, trundle down to The Cyprus or Old Conti for a couple of apre’ disco aperatifs...
Did check out Weapon of Peace at That notorious old doss hall, The Milky Way, in the port of Amsterdam...another midland band of the time...
And Charlie Harper and the O.A.P.s.... Actually Frank Zappa picked a U.K. Sub’s song “I Live in a Car” on a B.B.C. programme as one of his faves one time..(.bit partial to sleazy old Frank "Willie The Pimp" with the the good Captain still holds my attention......I'm sure some of the "Fools Gold" wah wah guitar riffs were lifted directly from that album then transported onto that particular platter; just a thought.....).
Jeez I should attend “Trivia Quiz Anonymous” sessions or something!
