Flyer
Manchester Polytechnic Cavendish House
13th August 1983

This flyer's obviously for an out of town venue ( good venue too...), but I do recall Tony Wilson having Tapper on "What's On " I think, where he had a bit of a natter with him about the idea of a Soundsystem and chatting on the mike and then let him do his stuff on the spot. In all the years of watching general music shows, that 2 minute section in 1980 (?) was about the most insightful and informative segment on the workings of a sound and toasting I ever saw;bit of an indictment right there! "M.D.M.A..." , "She must want a phensic", "Natty dread she want.." with Horace Andy...top notch stuff.I heard through my sources, he and Patti Smith were stepping out and were quite an item for a while, so there you go..!
And of course Dillinger was round for a long time. One time when he played at the old Poly he came on stage from the back of the hall and I was surprised how diddy he was up close;big stage presence though. "Cocaine round my brain " was obviously the big cross-over hit of the day. For ages I used to walk past the record shop in the Moss Side centre opposite the Post Office, and see the white 12" version of that particular track winking at me ;and every time I'd think "I'll buy it next time".Course I missed out and never got it. I eventually got the version (in Austria of all places, but not sung in German!) , where he does the singing bit ,not a guest vocalist, but it's not as good.He also played The Hacienda one time,as I recall. "Horsemouth" Wallace was in the film "rockers";great film.
Wow,seeing that flyer up there on the site I'm thinking what a great poster! Think I'm gonna frame that one and put it in "the good room"...
