I remember this gig mostly because the singer was a complete knob;he must have thought he was Mick Jagger or something .It was the only time I ever saw barracades and bouncers between the stage and audience in any of these smaller type venues. It seemed like the wheel (Twisted and otherwise) was being re-invented around this time,so there were so -called mod bands (Merton Parkas and their ilk),R ‘n B bands like 9 Below Zero and of course the whole 2 -Tone thing ,which seemed to have more depth to it ,i.e. it was politically engaged, multi- racial and bloody great to dance to!What more could you ask for...?Not long after came the re-birth of Heavy Rock/Heavy Metal ;supposedly rock with a punk attitude :Iron Maiden ,Tigers of Pan Tang and the like...I’m sure they packed out The Apollo. If I hadn’t had such curly hair when I were a lad ,perhaps I may have ended up a headbanger;(Philthy Taylor on "Ace of Spades " album cover;I could have aspired to that...)Best not to think about it........
