Flyer
The Hacienda
2nd February 1984

This is a bit more like it.!Can't say these sorts of nights really took off.I suppose the club was trying different things to get the people in;it was slow a lot of the time back in the day. They had Bangra and cabaret type nights. One recollection of a comedienne (old skool word),doing a bored housewife routine;sticking her fingers in a blender, burning herself with an iron (don't think it was for real)) etc.I'm sure all 100 or so people in attendance found it rather amusing....Another sudden flashback.Thinking of empty nights, I remember happening along one evening to see a band called Culture Club. Now I didn't know who they were but I'd read an article interviewing the singer in the N.M.E. or some such and he came across as quite a nice and interesting lad.I had a recollection of him being with Bow Wow Wow at the University Union sometime earlier so I reckoned it would be alright.Well I thought they were good.I recall he did a little toast about "coming up the M 1 and M62...".I was quite impressed 'cos I'd never seen a white guy toasting before and he seemed to have a knack for it.Sometime later I read an interview where he was quizzed along the lines of :favorite colour/place/best,worst gig ever....the reply to the last one being The Hacienda;something to do with the cool reception.Cheek!Well anyway I enjoyed meself...
